Bike events on Waiheke

Saturday 3 October!
Meet at Bike Hub at 10am

Get ready to pedal for pre-loved treasures on the ultimate thrift-shopping two-wheeled adventure! This event combines the joy of casual bike riding with the thrill of the secondhand hunt. We are partnering with local op-shops Red Cross, WISCA, and the Recovery Shop to hunt out the best Bike Rave Gear so you get first dips on the sparkly numbers! Whether you are hunting the perfect outfit, or just want to enjoy a sustainable day out with fellow riders, this event has something for everyone. After our last thrift stop, we’ll be heading down the street to Waiheke Cycles’ new location on Tahi Road to bling our helmets!

Time to hunt out and tune up your bikes, helmet, bright outfits, lights, and a speaker!

It's that time of year again when the streets light up and the cars slow down, with cyclists of all genres hitting the streets in an array of colours and beats. This community event is all about getting people riding, visible and confidant so even if you don't ride all the time you can still have a blast! The ride will start at Artworks and end at Artworks for our signature post-ride boogie.
Meet at 6:30pm at Artworks Courtyard for vegan sausages and other food (bring your wallet!) We’ll have face painting and plenty of time to mingle with the cycling community before we set out, close to sunset. The party goes until 11pm!

This year’s Bike Rave route is a longer ride than previous years, where we’ll be heading to Surfdale along the Esplanade, then back to Artworks. All kids must wear a helmet and be accompanied by a guardian to go on this ride.

Pop A Wheelie Competition

Corner of Moa & The Esplanade

We love wheelies, and today we’re going to crown Waiheke’s wheelie champion! Starting at the corner of Moa & The Esplanade, spectators will line the street, as wheelie pass by, heading towards The Esplanade turnaround. We will all witness who can hold their wheelie the longest! Heats of Years 7 & 8 and 9 -13.

MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE

Come along to Onetangi Sports Park for a guided ride of Waiheke’s mountain bike trails. You’ll need a mountain bike and some trail-riding experience for this fun afternoon event.

Delight in the tales of bike adventurers, bike enthusiasts, and the bike-curious at this fast-paced storytelling event. Pecha kucha narratives encompass 20 slides displayed for 20 seconds each, making a 6-minute, 40-second presentation—a snappy show that keeps you on your toes! As long as it involves bicycles, you can tell any story that involves the world of bicycles: your daily commute, your bike discoveries, or how you met the love of your life while on a bike! (Maybe the love of your life IS a bike!)

Meet at Four Square Onetangi!

Let’s do the loop! Meet outside the RSA in Ostend, then cycle as a group to discover Waiheke’s eastern end. We stop for lunch at Man O' War, so bring your wallet or a picnic. Charge up your bike and bring a charger if you’re battery powered! The hills are legendary, the gravel gravelly, the views unparalleled.

Bring lots of water, sunscreen and appropriate weather gear. This challenging 40-kilometre ride brings you off the beaten Waiheke path, and is a great way to test your legs and meet new bike friends!
